Our History
Pentre Mawr Country House has been in Graham’s family for over 400 years. Along with the fine house, the extensive grounds have long supported farming and housing in the local area. When walking around the property, you will notice large red brick barns. Once working stables and outhouses, these buildings have been transformed into our wonderful wedding venue.
After decades as a farming hub, the Pentre Mawr renaissance began almost 15 years ago. Previously, Bre and Graham ran an an award winning hotel in Conwy. In August 2010 they sold that hotel and became the latest custodians of Pentre Mawr Country House.
While it’s full of family history and period pieces, it’s far from being a relic. It’s had a complete overhaul before its doors opened as a Wedding Venue. We have a modern approach to both our food and our service.
Call us unconventional, but it’s all part of Pentre Mawr’s charm. We were the first to erected six genuine African Safari Lodges, which you can read all about on our Safari Lodges page. Also, following the recent change in the law, we have built an area specifically designed for outdoor weddings. Nestled in the old rockery, atop the infinity lawn and looking out onto stunning views of the Clwydian Hills, you will find the most idyllic wedding setting. With beautiful flowers, and traditional pagoda, we’re extremely proud of our brand new Garden Terrace, available for now for all weddings.
